Melissa Chia

Melissa Felix Chia (b.1987) is a self-taught artist from Manila. Revisiting her childhood years, Melissa has always been passionate about art. She has a degree in BS Tourism from the College of Holy Spirit Manila, becoming a successful flight attendant as her professional career. It was during the pandemic when the travel industry was in dire straits, the artist had more time and focus on rekindling her fervent passion for painting.

Melissa’s oeuvre comprises bright, efflorescent abstractions interwoven with ornaments of white, black, silver and gold. She considers her artistic technique as free-formed – excellently infusing colors to bring about enthralling presentations of blooming energy, leaving its viewers interpretations anew. The spirited boldness of abstracted figures, patterns, and forms are notably inspired by the works of one of her favorite artists, Gustav Klimt. The renowned artist served as an admirable guide for Melissa, until eventually finding her own unique and distinct style.
